L.A. Taco Crawl Part I…

If you know me well, you know I love a good taco.  I’ve been wanting to do a Taco Crawl for a while and recently decided to make that happen.   One of my lovely friends and I took to the lively streets of North-East Los Angeles.  It was definitely a good time and a late night out for June’s Mama!!!  We tried four spots, and I decided to make it an Al Pastor (Pork) taco night, since I’ve never tried this meat in a taco.  Oh, I did do one Asada (steak) taco.  Couldn’t finish the night without trying one steak taco.  Ok…let’s Crawl!!!

First stop…

The Taco Ladies (between the McDonalds and Pizza Hut on York Blvd)

I don’t know the name of this spot, but these ladies are doing it right.  They make their own tortillas to order, yes I said that.  She presses out a tortilla as they are ordered and they are light and thin, but still able to hold the weight of the juicy meat without falling apart.  The meat is amazing!!! The Al Pastor is sliced off the Spitz with a fresh pineapple dripping juice onto the meat.  Not too salty, but a bit of sweet and lots of savory.  Mouth-watering!  If you’re in L.A., you have to add this to your list!!!

Cocktail Break…

We stopped off at El Arco Iris for a very yummy Skinny Margarita with fresh jalapeno.  Great spot for cocktails and apparently the food is awesome too. Have to go back for the food!

Second Spot…

El Pelon (52 Ave and York Blvd)

I had the Al Pastor with a few radishes, cilantro, and onion.  Very tasty and marinated perfectly.  I love how he had everything set up.  Very clean and the tacos are excellent.  They also make their own tortillas.

Third Spot…

Charlies Tacos (1300 N Ave 50)

I had an Al Pastor taco here and it was good, but a bit on the salty side for me.  Couldn’t really taste the flavor of the meat.  That Fanta Orange…heaven!  Love me a Fanta Orange every now and then. I forgot to take a photo of my taco, so I posted one from Charlie’s Taco Yelp site.

Cocktail Break…

We grabbed a beer at Johnnys, a neighborhood gem.  The music was great and a nice spot to take a break from stuffing our faces.

Fourth Spot…

El Taco Feliz (Verdugo Rd and W Ave 31)

Last taco of the night, I chose an Asada (steak) taco.  Boy, did I devour it.  I was stuffed and feeling great at this point, but it was time to head home.  Taco Feliz was a great way to end the night.  Family operated and the food is awesome.
